It’s been almost a year since I started posting ‘Space Pops’ cartoons, and during that time, the comic strip has gone through some major changes and developments.  (I actually made a first effort in August of 2007, so technically this has been my second try).

What started out as a light-hearted comic strip loosely based on my childhood and life experiences is turning into an epic of sorts, and I need to take a ‘time-out’ to put it all together.

I never thought Mr. Bobo was going to play such a major role, but as the story has unfolded, he is revealed to be the silent fulcrum upon which the whole cartoon rotates.

I have a list of things I want to do while on hiatus: this includes getting the story fully developed and organized, improving the appearance of the characters, and getting a few weeks ahead to create a buffer.  I’m not going to set a return date because I honestly don’t know how long this is going to take, and I intend on taking as much time as I need to do this, even if it means working on it all summer and returning again in the fall.

If you follow me on Twitter, you will know when I’m back via my tweets.  Otherwise you can subscribe to my RSS or email updates if you want a notification when I’m back.  I’m leaving my archives (dated back to August 2009) intact to read while I’m gone.  I will also update everyone with sketches and other goodies as the comic strip develops via Twitter and on Facebook, so stay tuned!

I’ve launched a new website at ElizaT.com.  This site will feature some of my past and present art projects.  I’m still trying to figure out what kind of blog I want it to be – it’ll probably end up being the place where I post artsy things that I do that are unrelated to my ’Space Pops’ cartoon.

I have a lot of old drawings and paintings lying around from my childhood and college years waiting to be photographed or scanned into the computer, so those will eventually be posted there too.

You also might enjoy checking out my scrap book blog on Tumblr of images that I find inspiring.

‘Space Pops’ cartoons were featured at FlyCoupon.com from January 2010 until the end of April, when I decided to go on hiatus.  FlyCoupon sells discounted vouchers for local businesses in the Chicagoland area.

I also did an illustration project for them, which was basically a four panel cartoon explaining how their business works.  It was a fun project to draw, and I enjoyed being featured on their website.

Beginning today, ‘Space Pops’ daily cartoons will be in full-color.  I liked the dailies in black and white, but I think doing them in color brings the characters more to life.  Hope you enjoy the new look!

EtsyOriginal ‘Space Pops’ cartoon drawings are now available for purchase on Etsy.  All drawings are done using ink pen on 9 x 12 smooth bristol paper, and would look great framed on the wall.  Your purchase will also include a print of the web version on high-quality paper.

If there is a specific comic strip that you are interested in purchasing that is not in the store, please let me know using the email contact form in the ‘Contact‘ section, or via Twitter.  If it is available, I will post it on Etsy, and send you the link.
